Description

These Bacon Crackers are a simple yet addictive appetizer with a sweet and savory flavor combination. Crispy bacon and melted brown sugar top buttery crackers for an easy-to-make treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package butter crackers (such as Town House or Club crackers)
  • 810 slices bacon (regular-cut, not thick-cut)
  • 1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper (for easy cleanup). Place a wire rack on top of the lined baking sheet. This allows for better air circulation and crispier bacon.
  • Arrange Crackers: Arrange the crackers in a single layer on the wire rack, leaving a small space between each cracker. This allows the bacon to hang over the edges slightly without overlapping too much.
  • Prepare Bacon: Cut each bacon slice into thirds or fourths, depending on the size and shape of your crackers. The bacon pieces should be slightly longer than the crackers.
  • Top Crackers with Bacon: Place one piece of cut bacon lengthwise on top of each cracker.
  • Add Brown Sugar: Sprinkle a generous amount of brown sugar over each bacon-topped cracker (about 1 heaping teaspoon per cracker).
  • Season (Optional): Lightly sprinkle cayenne pepper (if using) and black pepper over the brown sugar.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the brown sugar is melted and bubbly, the bacon is crispy, and the crackers are lightly golden brown. Watch carefully during the last few minutes of baking to prevent burning.
  • Cool: Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Let the bacon crackers cool completely on the wire rack. They will crisp up as they cool.

Notes

  • Crackers: Butter crackers, such as Town House or Club crackers, are recommended for their buttery flavor and sturdy texture.
  • Bacon: Use regular-cut bacon, not thick-cut. Thick-cut bacon will take longer to cook and may not crisp up properly.
  • Brown Sugar: You can use light or dark brown sugar. Dark brown sugar will have a more intense molasses flavor.
  • Cayenne Pepper: The cayenne pepper adds a touch of heat. You can adjust the amount to your preference or omit it altogether.
  • Wire Rack: Baking the crackers on a wire rack allows air to circulate around them, resulting in crispier bacon and crackers.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve these bacon crackers as an appetizer or snack.
  • Storage: Store at room temp for 3-4 days.
