Description

Bruschetta Dip is a light and easy appetizer with irresistible summery flavors. Fresh diced tomatoes, basil, garlic, and olive oil combine for a classic topping perfect with toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup diced ripe tomatoes (such as Roma or vine-ripened), seeded and diced (about 23 medium)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Balsamic vinegar or glaze (optional, for drizzling)
  • Toasted French baguette slices or crostini, for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare Ingredients: Dice the tomatoes (seeding is recommended to prevent excess moisture). Chop the fresh basil. Mince the garlic clove.
  • Combine: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, and extra virgin olive oil.
  • Season: Season the mixture with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir gently to combine.
  • Chill (Recommended): Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve: Transfer the bruschetta mixture to a serving bowl. Serve with toasted French baguette slices or crostini for scooping. Optionally, drizzle with balsamic glaze just before serving.

Notes

  • Tomatoes: Use ripe, flavorful tomatoes. Roma tomatoes hold their shape well. Seeding the tomatoes helps prevent the dip from becoming too watery.
  • Basil: Fresh basil is essential for the classic bruschetta flavor.
  • Garlic: Adjust the amount of garlic to your preference.
  • Chilling: Allowing the mixture to chill lets the flavors blend together nicely.
  • Variations: Add a finely chopped shallot or red onion, or a splash of balsamic vinegar directly into the mix.
  • Serving: Best served shortly after preparing, alongside toasted baguette slices (crostini). You can also spoon it over grilled chicken or fish.
  • Storage: Store leftover bruschetta topping in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The flavor is best when fresh.
