Description
These Keto Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers are the perfect appetizer for any occasion. Spicy jalapeños are stuffed with a creamy, cheesy filling and wrapped in crispy bacon, creating a delicious and satisfying low-carb snack.
Ingredients
- 10 fresh jalapeño peppers
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 20 slices bacon
- Chopped chives or green onions, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat Oven or Grill:
- Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
-
Prepare Jalapeños: Wash the jalapeños thoroughly. Slice each jalapeño in half lengthwise. Using a small spoon or paring knife, carefully remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeño halves. Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid irritation, and avoid touching your eyes. Discard the seeds and membranes.
-
Make Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
-
Stuff Jalapeños: Using a small spoon or a piping bag, fill each jalapeño half with the cream cheese mixture. Fill them generously, but avoid overfilling so the mixture doesn’t spill out excessively during cooking.
-
Wrap with Bacon: Wrap each stuffed jalapeño half with a slice of bacon. Start at one end and spiral the bacon around the jalapeño, overlapping slightly. Secure the bacon with toothpicks if necessary.
-
Cook: Choose your cooking method:
- Oven Method: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or place a wire rack on top of a baking sheet. Arrange the bacon-wrapped jalapeños on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Grill Method: Place the bacon-wrapped jalapeños directly on the preheated grill grates. Cook for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the bacon is crispy and the cheese is melted.
-
Cool and Serve: Remove the jalapeño poppers from the oven or grill and let them cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped chives or green onions, if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Jalapeño Heat: The heat level of jalapeños can vary. Removing the seeds and membranes reduces the heat significantly. For a spicier popper, leave some of the seeds and membranes intact.
- Cream Cheese: Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy mixing.
- Bacon: Use regular-cut bacon, not thick-cut, as it will wrap around the jalapeños more easily and cook more evenly.
- Make-Ahead: You can assemble the jalapeño poppers ahead of time and store them, covered, in the refrigerator until ready to cook.
