Description

This Strawberry Honey Basil Fizz Mocktail is a wonderful, refreshing, non-alcoholic drink to enjoy this spring and summer. It’s naturally sweetened with a homemade honey simple syrup and muddled strawberries! Filled with fresh basil, lime juice, and a touch of plain sparkling water for a little carbonation, it screams perfect patio drink!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Honey Simple Syrup (Makes Extra):

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water

For the Mocktail (per serving):

  • 12 fresh strawberries, sliced or roughly chopped
  • 23 large fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 3/4 ounce (1 1/2 tablespoons) freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) Honey Simple Syrup (from recipe above, adjust to taste)
  • 23 ounces plain sparkling water or club soda, chilled
  • Crushed ice

Optional Garnishes:

  • Lime slice or wedge
  • Strawberry slice
  • Fresh basil leaf

Instructions

1. Make the Honey Simple Syrup:

  • In a small saucepan, combine the honey and water.
  • Bring the mixture just to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the honey has completely dissolved into the water.
  • Remove from heat and let the syrup cool completely. (Store leftover syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks).

2. Prepare the Mocktail:

  • Muddle: Add the sliced/chopped strawberries and torn basil leaves to the bottom of a sturdy serving glass. Using a muddler or the end of a wooden spoon, gently press and twist the strawberries and basil together until the strawberries are juicy and the basil is fragrant. Do not pulverize.
  • Add Ice & Liquids: Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add the fresh lime juice and 1 ounce of the cooled honey simple syrup.
  • Top & Stir: Top off the glass with the chilled sparkling water or club soda. Stir gently to combine the ingredients without losing too much fizz.
  • Taste & Adjust: Taste the mocktail and add more honey simple syrup if you prefer it sweeter.
  • Garnish: Garnish with a slice of lime or strawberry, and a fresh basil leaf, if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Honey Simple Syrup: Making the syrup ensures the honey dissolves smoothly. Adjust sweetness by using more or less syrup in the final drink.
  • Muddling: Gently muddle the fruit and herbs to release their flavors without tearing the basil excessively.
  • Sparkling Water: Plain sparkling water, club soda, or even a lime-flavored sparkling water works well. Ensure it’s chilled.
  • Make it a Pitcher: Easily multiply the mocktail ingredients (strawberries, basil, lime juice, simple syrup, sparkling water) and combine in a large pitcher after muddling the fruit/herbs in the pitcher base. Add ice just before serving.
  • Storage: This mocktail is best enjoyed immediately after preparation.
