Description

This Halloween Taco Dip is a fun and festive appetizer that’s perfect for a spooky party! Layers of bean dip, taco-seasoned sour cream, guacamole, cheese, tomatoes, and kale create a delicious and visually appealing dip, topped with a creative olive spider web.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15-16 ounce) can Frito Lay Bean Dip (or other bean dip)
  • 1 cup prepared guacamole
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream, divided
  • 1 (1-ounce) packet taco seasoning
  • 810 black olives, divided (2 whole for spider, the rest sliced or diced)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium tomato, seeded and diced
  • 1 cup kale, very finely shredded (or finely shredded lettuce)

Instructions

  • Prepare Serving Plate: Use an 8-inch round plate (or a similar-sized shallow dish) for this recipe.

  • Spread Bean Dip: Spread the bean dip evenly over the entire surface of the plate, creating the base layer.

  • Make Taco Sour Cream: In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of the sour cream with the taco seasoning. Mix well until the seasoning is evenly distributed.

  • Create Sour Cream Ring: Spread the taco-seasoned sour cream in an approximately 2-inch wide ring around the outer edge of the plate, leaving the center of the bean dip exposed.

  • Add Guacamole: Spread the prepared guacamole in the center of the plate, on top of the bean dip and inside the sour cream ring.

  • Make Sour Cream Web: Place the remaining 1/2 cup of sour cream in a small resealable plastic bag (like a Ziploc bag). Push the sour cream into one corner of the bag. Snip off a very small corner of the bag to create a makeshift piping bag.

  • Pipe Web: Carefully pipe the sour cream onto the guacamole in a spiderweb pattern. Start by piping concentric circles, then pipe straight lines from the center outwards to create the web spokes.

  • Add Toppings: Sprinkle the finely shredded kale, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and sliced/diced black olives (reserving 2 whole olives for the spider) evenly over the sour cream ring.

  • Make Olive Spider:

    • Body: Place one whole black olive in the center of the piped sour cream web to create the spider’s body.
    • Legs: Slice the remaining whole black olive very thinly lengthwise to create 8 thin strips for the spider’s legs. Arrange the olive strips around the “body” olive to resemble spider legs.
  • Serve: Serve immediately with tortilla chips, vegetable sticks, or your favorite dippers.

Notes

  • Bean Dip: You can use any type of bean dip you prefer, but the Frito Lay brand (found in the chip aisle) is suggested.
  • Guacamole: You can use store-bought or homemade guacamole.
  • Sour Cream: Full-fat sour cream is recommended for the best flavor and texture.
  • Taco Seasoning: Use your favorite brand of taco seasoning.
  • Kale/Lettuce: Very finely shredded kale or lettuce adds a nice texture and color contrast.
  • Make-Ahead: You can prepare the individual components (bean dip layer, taco sour cream, guacamole) ahead of time and store them separately in the refrigerator. Assemble the dip just before serving.
  • Serving Suggestions: This dip is perfect for Halloween parties or any gathering. Serve it with tortilla chips, vegetable sticks, or crackers.
