Description
These Chili Corn Dogs are a fun and easy twist on classic corn dogs. Frozen corn dogs are baked, stuffed with chili, topped with cheese, and baked again until melty and delicious.
Ingredients
Scale
- Frozen corn dogs (as many as desired)
- 1 (15-ounce) can chili per 4 corn dogs (adjust amount based on the number of corn dogs)
- Shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- Optional Toppings: Diced onions, sliced jalapeños, sour cream, hot sauce
Instructions
- Bake Corn Dogs: Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the frozen corn dog package. (Typically, this is around 350°F / 175°C). Bake the corn dogs according to the package directions until they are heated through and golden brown. If baking more than the package recommends, you may need to increase the baking time slightly.
- Heat Chili: While the corn dogs are baking, heat the chili in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
- Prepare Corn Dogs: Once the corn dogs are baked, carefully remove them from the oven. Remove the sticks from the corn dogs. Using a serrated bread knife, carefully slice each corn dog lengthwise down the center, creating an opening for the chili (like a hot dog bun). Be careful not to cut all the way through.
- Stuff with Chili: Place the sliced corn dogs on a baking sheet. Spoon the warmed chili generously into the opening of each corn dog.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese) generously over the chili-filled corn dogs.
- Melt Cheese: Return the chili corn dogs to the oven and bake for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. You can also broil them for a minute or two for a more browned, melted cheese topping, but watch carefully to prevent burning.
- Add Toppings and Serve: Remove the chili corn dogs from the oven. Add any desired toppings, such as diced onions, sliced jalapeños, sour cream, or hot sauce. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Corn Dogs: Use your favorite brand of frozen corn dogs.
- Chili: Use your favorite canned chili, or make your own homemade chili. Vegetarian chili also works well.
- Cheese: Cheddar cheese is a classic choice, but you can use other cheeses, such as Monterey Jack, pepper jack, or a Mexican blend.
- Toppings: Get creative with your toppings! Diced onions, sliced jalapeños, sour cream, hot sauce, chopped cilantro, and avocado are all great options.
- Serving Suggestions: Serve these chili corn dogs as a fun appetizer, snack, or main course.
